John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife’s grave. Then he joined the army.
The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce– and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding.
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book was awesome. I listened to it via audiobook narrated by William Dufris, who was an excellent narrator. It’s a refreshing with elements of classic sci-fi and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, adventurous book that perfectly fits the imaginative concepts that the genre has to offer.
The author John Scalzi is a talented writer whose use of candid language and colorful imagery made for a thought-provoking, hilarious read. The characters were intriguing and the philosophical interjections were so incredibly entertaining.
The plots and subplots were great, having parts of character reflection and a well-communicated storyline that maintained consistent tone and direction, which I found particularly satisfying.
