The Noise by James Patterson, J.D. Barker

Synopsis

If you hear it, itโ€™s too late.

In the shadow of Mount Hood, sixteen-year-old Tennant is checking rabbit traps with her eight-year-old sister Sophie when the girls are suddenly overcome by a strange vibration rising out of the forest, building in intensity until it sounds like a deafening crescendo of screams.

From out of nowhere, their father sweeps them up and drops them through a trapdoor into a storm cellar.

But the sound only gets worse…

The Noise by James Patterson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This one kept me going. I would like to thank Little, Brown and Company for providing me with an advance reader copy. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fast-paced, clear off your last minute afternoon plans, sit down with a good book and just enjoy, type of read.

The Story
Loved the premise. I was willing to go wherever it would take me. Whether plausible or implausible, explained or inferred. I felt myself being drawn to this satisfying quench of immediate curiosity as each scene played around in each character’s thoughts and dialogue. Just enough reveal to make me wonder as much as the characters as they interacted, to the point where I felt present with them.

The Writing
The writing is like candy. Chapter transitions that smoothly roll over with this enticing, sometimes subtle, sometimes overt, interconnectedness that kept me glued at the turn of each page. Multiple POVs with short chapters that were never confusing nor tiresome, didnโ€™t shy away from 2 in a row, which satisfied my wanting to read just one more thought or perspective of a character before moving on to the next.

Characters
The creepiness is a stand out.

Looking forward to more as always.
