All My Children

Day 21 of Bloganuary!

This post is my response to the question “Write about your first name: its meaning, significance, etymology, etc.” A list of the writing challenges can be found here.

My name, as my grandfather named me, comes from his favorite and well-known character from an ABC network daytime television soap opera show, called All My Children.

Played by Susan Lucci, the woman named “Erica Kane,” is known for being a romantic heroine, amongst other archetypes and dramatic roles.

Per the familiar drama depicted in the storylines that most recall, responses from people are typically with an aw, she’s beautiful, saying “You look like her.” Which is then followed by a very playful, slightly puzzling narrowed eyes and curious laugh, “You don’t live a life like her character do you?” Which I view a lovely and memorable compliment, comes with intriguing conversation each time.

Erica is of old Germanic origin and is the feminine version of “Erik,” meaning “powerful and honorable ruler.”

If you’re participating in the Bloganuary writing challenge be sure to link your posts and let me know about your name in the comments below!
