It’s day 14 of Bloganuary!
This post is my response to the question “In what ways do you communicate online?” A list of the writing challenges can be found here.
As an extroverted Millennial born in a Greatest Generation soul, I do find it challenging to straddle both worlds of being online with my love for old-fashioned kitchen-table talk and postal mail. Ways I communicate online has changed so much over the years as well.
Stylistic-wise, the primary way I communicate is pretty consistent and similar to in-person, yet varies a bit, even amongst platforms. I can’t really explain as to how. I typically use complete sentences in chats and texts though, if that describes anything. Especially being a polyglot, I notice slight differences compared to whom I’m writing to or speaking with. In Spanish, I’m much more carefree and animated.
Emoting with emojis, GIFS, or memes, it just depends.
And it’s always a peculiar balance between consuming and contributing. Notably sharing my enjoyment and support with continued commitment of enthusiastic viewership, likes, or comments.
Being an early adopter of the internet, from the time of ICQ until now, I’ve used many different platforms to send and receive messages over the Information Superhighway. I no longer use most of them. For various reasons.
Writing Letters
“The proper definition of a man is an animal that writes letters.”
Lewis Carroll
Nowadays, I’d say blogging here is one of my mainstays and probably my most favorite. Namely because it combines the craft of writing, along with the ability to showcase pictures I take.
It challenges me in my creative hobbies of baking and food photography, reading and styling books, and putting random thoughts I have together.
Plus, I can customize it according to my personality, preferences, holidays, and each season.
Browsing everyone else’s sites are always a joy too. We have a lovely WordPress community.
It’s unique to the blogging world.

“You must, therefore, pardon the freedom with which I demand your attention; your feelings, I know, will bestow it unwillingly, but I demand it of your justice.”
Fitzwilliam Darcy Esquire
The more engaging platforms not listed as part of my current social media sites, include Discord and Zoom, mainly for the online book clubs I’m a part of. Those are super fun. We connect on so many levels. Notably from all around the world. Our love for books, talking about books, and other things we have in common.
Beauty of all Literature
“That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you’re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong.”
F. Scott Fitzgerald
