Happy New Year! What I’m Looking Forward to in 2022

Bubbling fountains lit up with palms and Atlantic Ocean at sunset.

Wow, what a year 2021 was!

There are so many memes that evoke so much more fluctuations of emotion in 2021 than I could even describe.

South Park depicts an comedic, yet serious take on it all, check out their video episode called A New COVID Variant Discovered.

I’m certainly excited to begin a new year, at least with some more lighthearted humor and positivity, though there is somewhat of an apathetic response to it all and I know many others are quietly and cautiously harboring a lot of mixed feelings right now.

There’s grief, disappointment, and tragedy.

There’s hope, compassion, and thankfulness.

With the uncertainty though, I do feel there is a lot to be grateful for and a lot to look forward to in 2022.

I had a lot to look forward to in 2021 and you can check out my post here. You’ll definitely see a few reappearances in 2022.

If you are curious about the books I read in 2021, you can check them out on my Goodreads Year in Books page. I read a lot of fun books, an eclectic selection, that’s half the fun for me.

Anyway here is my list of things I am looking forward to in 2022.

Books

Speaking of reading, the books I’m looking forward to in 2022 include everything on my physical shelf.

Physical Book Shelf of 2022

I’m also wanting to focus on reading memoirs. I’ll be listening to most of them as audiobooks because I feel biographies, history, and nonfiction reads are more palatable that way.

If you are interested in getting audiobooks that also help you support your local independent bookstore, check out Libro.fm here.

Here are a few of the ones I have lined up:

Movies and Series

Movie Tickets
Harkins and AMC Movie Theatre Tickets

Sadly I did not see any movies at the theater in 2021. These tickets are still waiting in my wallet. But I’m hoping this year I can catch up on ones I’ve been looking forward to.

The Matrix Resurrections
Boba Fett

I absolutely loved The Mandalorian, so super excited for Boba Fett.

Crafting

I didn’t get to craft as much as I wanted last year. Here are the creative pastimes I’m looking forward to.

The Child Latch Hook Rug
DIY Miniature Greenhouse
Classic Chinese Brush Painting

I hope to revamp my website this year too. I have to do a complete overhaul since switching from Classic to Gutenberg, so be on the lookout for some more craft content, like this Kitty Cat Painted Pot Craft, as well as a few aesthetic changes I would like to make to my website.

Take Time to Appreciate

Crafting is always a relaxing solace for me. I plan to take the time to slow down and appreciate other sorts of art.

I’m particularly fond of the idea of bringing visual representation of the type of inspiration into your home that really stirs your soul. I would like to bring some treasured images into my work and home spaces. Especially the types that give me incredible wonder and aw.

I love this photo so much and it is available as a print here. I am partial to the ocean and I can’t wait to put this print up on my wall.

Take Time to Decompress

Amelia Island, Florida

For the decompression aspect of what I’m looking forward to is spending more time in places that I take pleasure in.

In 2021, I thoroughly basked in the sun, at the beach, enjoying a lovely stay at the Omni Hotel on Amelia Island, Florida, dining at the oyster bar, sipping a piña colada, watching the sunset as birds dove into the water for fish.

And there were people! Oh how I miss people! Chit-chatting, laughter, joy.

It felt so normal, so circa pre-pandemic 2019, and incredibly refreshing.

I really want more of that. I need more of that.

Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Speaking of refreshing, The Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is coming! Yes this this one deserves a dedicated title. I’m so looking forward to it!

Bonus Creativity Project

Coinbase NFT Project

Linking to the digital artwork that is so incredibly beautiful when it comes to Nintendo, a new way of displaying images is here and tradable.

Digital currency, most generally refer to as Bitcoin, sort of like how Kleenex is used to describe facial tissue, has been a wonderful and fascinating journey for me.

This year I’m hoping to expand into creating NFTs or what is known as non-fungible tokens. I’m on the Coinbase waitlist currently.

These pieces of digital artwork are unique units of data that employs technology that allows for the digital content—from videos to songs to images—to become logged and authenticated on cryptocurrency blockchains.

Like many, I was certainly a skeptic at all this advancing technology at first.

Thought what a scam.

But when I took the plunge into cryptocurrency, I realized there lives this whole other ecosystem that exists to create this a whole other decentralized banking system that I’ve enjoyed being a part of.

More to come on that this year.

Get Stronger

As technology advances, I feel it’s important to just get out into nature, often without much of any technology. Just admiring nature and all the surrounding beauty.

Hiking is my favorite way to get out. I love the way it makes me feel, both in energy and accomplishment.

I reminisce hiking adventures in Maui.

Of course diet and exercise New Year resolutions to get in shape and lose weight peak in January, but for me, I just want to be stronger, get back to what is baseline for me in general, without a pushing, dedicated timeline.

It’s crazy to think that I used to be able to max out the leg press machine. Nope. Not anymore. I really need to work on that.

It’s not about fitting into my jeans, and yes I have kept mine from high school and college, which would be a bonus for me to get back into.

And yes they don’t make jeans like they used to, any cotton blend with over 1% elastane, no thanks! I like a good, sturdy jean, one that holds up but softens with time and lasts you for ages and doesn’t feel like leggings.

There’s a time and place for leggings, but I don’t think you can beat a nice, fitted, cute pair of classic jeans as part of your outfit.

My Stack of Classic Jeans

But I’ve just gotten so weak. I want to focus on that.

I love watching inspirational fitness videos. My favorites of last year, likely carrying on to this year and a half are THENX which focuses on calisthenics and Bob & Brad, the two most famous Physical Therapists on the internet.

Stronger Than You Think

The Child Star Wars Calendar 2022

Of course what better way to begin the New Year with The Child Star Wars calendar my family got me which starts the month of January off with the quote “Stronger than you think.”

May you have an amazing 2022 and have a Happy New Year!
